Produce more content about Africans, Afro-Americans and Black people around the world. This is the project consolidated by the American television company The Africa Channel (TAC). It has officially launched TAC Studios, which will produce and distribute programs on contemporary African life.

The project was presented during the South African edition of Discop Africa, the largest audiovisual content market in Africa, held from 2 to 4 November 2016.

TAC, which has its own television channel, intends to focus on lifestyles in Africa, offering a mix of travel, cooking, music and reality programs. Its new production unit will develop scripted projects. TAC Studios will work with a network of producers and production companies in Africa and around the world. TAC is looking for partnerships to increase production budgets and offer high-end content.

"We have been producing shows for several years for our own use. But until now we have not considered authorizing the use of our content by third parties", says Narendra Reddy, Head of Global Content and Operations at TAC. "After receiving requests from several digital networks and platforms, we realized that there is a market for high-quality and affordable content that reflects the people and influences of Africa".

TAC will therefore not only produce and distribute new content. The American company will also distribute the existing programs of its catalog, more than 300 hours. Licensing agreements with several TV channels have already been signed, including South Korea's Mnet, Australian SBS Tv and Bet Africa. Contracts also exist with airlines such as South African Airways and Kenya Airways.

This is the first time that TAC will sell productions outside its broadcast territories, which are the United States, Jamaica, Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Bermuda, and other Caribbean islands.
