Screening of the documentary "The Cut", winner of the ACPCultures+ Prize, at the ACP House in Brussels

Chaired by Mrs Michèle Dominique Raymond, Assistant Secretary General, the screening of "The Cut" by Beryl Magoko, winner of the ACPCultures + Prize at FESPACO 2013, aroused a lot of emotion in the audience.

The screening of this documentary, dealing with the traditional practices of female circumcision among the Kuria people of Kenya, was followed by a discussion on the fight against female genital mutilation (FGM).
Ms. Beryl Magoko, director of The Cut and Ms. Assita Kanko, Municipal Councillor for the Commune of Ixelles in Brussels, shared their trauma and their commitment to fight against FGM with the audience. 
Mrs Dagmar Schumacher, UN Women’s Representative to the European Union, and the producer of the documentary, Mr Andreas Frowein, have also expressed their commitment to this fight.

The audience unanimously praised the quality of the film that won three other Awards:
- Best East Africa Film at Kenya International Film Festival 2012
- Best Documentary at Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival 2012 (USA)
- Special Mention of the Jury at Zimbabwe International Film Festival Images For Women 2013
