A presentation of the website Uganda-Cultures (http://uganda.spla.pro) and of the Southplanet (www.spla.pro) project in Uganda.

The Cultures-Uganda portal by SPLA-Southplanet is introduced by the filmmaker and producer Nathan Kiwere, local coordinator of the Southplanet activities. Kiwere notes that a common portal for local artists revolutionizes the way people learn about artists and their activities and thereby mobilizing people for projects has become easier. Alex Lyons (32° East Ugandan Arts Trust) as visual arts coordinator of Cultures-Uganda acknowledges the great potential in such a database for researching festivals, galleries and directly being able to get into contact. At a time where a lot of change occurs in Uganda – a large increase in number of festivals, new disciplines and institutions emerging as well as growing interest in art and an equally developing market for it – a portal such as offered by Southplanet is needed.
